Question

I AM CONFUSED ABOUT THE INSCREASING AND DECREASING PART. CAN YOU PLEASE HELP EXPLAIN THAT PART AND HOW TO KNOW TO SOLVE.. THANK YOU!

The maximum current in a 22uF capacitor connected to an ac generator with a frequency of 120Hz is 0.15A.

What is the maximum voltage of the generator?

1) What is the voltage across the capacitor when the current in the circuit is .10A and increasing?

FOR THIS QUESTION I GET x=xmax(sin) = Sin is 41.81 as the degrees BUT I DO NOT KNOW IF THAT IS INCREASING OR DECREASING. Then how do I find the other VALUE.. EITHER INCREASING OR DECREASING?? this is the equation I plug it into and find the v value. v=vmaxsin(41.81-90) . I used 43.81-90 because volts is 90 degrees behind the current.

2) What is the voltage across the capacitor when the current in the circuit is .10A and decreasing?

Explanation / Answer

a) Vmax = Xc × Imax

= Imax/wC = Imax/2f.C

Where, f = frequency

C = capacitance

Vmax = 0.15/(2×120 s^-1× 22×10^-6 F) = 9 V

b) V = Vmax sin(theta) = Vmax.sin{180°-sin^-1(I/Imax)-90°}

Put the value of Vmax, Imax = 0.15 A, I = 0.1 A

V = 6.7V
