Question
Dr. Parker’s hobby is growing orchids. For many years she has used the fertilizer, Miracle Gro on her Dendrobium orchid plants to encourage strong spikes with many flowers. Recently, she purchased a new fertilizer, Bloom Gro. The manufacturer of Bloom Gro claims that the use of its product will result in more flowers per strike that any other fertilizer on the market. To test this, Dr. Parker fertilized six Dendrobium orchid plants with miracle Gro and six Dendrobium orchid plants with Bloom Gro. When the spikes developed she counted the flower buds on each spike. She collected the following data: Miracle Gro: number of flowers buds on the spike of each plant- 8,9,7,9,7,9. Bloom Gro: number of flowers buds on the spike of each plant- 9,10,8,10,8,7. 1) What is the scientific question being addressed. 2.) What are the hypothesis? H0: H1: 3) What is the independent variable? The fertilizer type is the independent variable. 4) What is the dependent variable? The dependent variable is the number of flowers per spike. 5) Suggest three standardized variables 6) Prepare a table of the summary data 7) Prepare an appropriate graph of the summary data 8) Perform a t-test on these data. Show all calculations Degrees of freedom: T-calc: T crit: 9) Can you reject the null hypothesis? 10) Write a conclusion sentence comparing t-cal to t-crit for a given p and n thereby rejecting either the null (which you state) or the alternate (again, which you state) and make a conclusion which of course you state.
Explanation / Answer
1)the scientific question addressed here is that what is the relationship between test performance and arousal? Means to find out relationship between fertilizer type and flower buds on the spike.
2)The null hypothesis (H0) in any project is,the connection suggested by the experiment is false means one variable is not dependent to other variable while the alternative hypothesis (H1) is always the assertion that there is a meaningful connection to be investigated for giving variables means one variable is dependent to other variable
3)in this question independent variable is type of fertilizer means either miracle gro or bloom gro is used. This is independent variable.
4)Dependent variable is number of flower per spike which is dependent on type of fertilizer used.
