Question

Three resistors having resistances of R1 = 1.1 , R2 = 2.2 and R3 = 4.7 respectively, are connected in series to a 30V battery that has negligible internal resistance. Part A Find the equivalent resistance of the combination. Req = Part B Find the current in each resistor. Answer in the order indicated. Separate your answers using commas. IR1,IR2,IR3 = Part C Find the total current through the battery. I = Part D Find the voltage across each resistor. Answer in the order indicated. Separate your answers using commas. VR1,VR2,VR3 =

Explanation / Answer

a)

here

Req = R1 + R2 + R3

Req = 1.1 + 2.2 + 4.7

Req = 8 ohm

b)

by using ohms law

I = V / R

I = 30 / 8 = 3.75 amp

the resistors are in series so the current in resistors are same

therefore

I1 = I2 = I3 = 3.75 amp

c)

total current

I = 3.75 amp

d)

by using ohms law

V1 = I1 * R1

V1 = 3.75 * 1.1 = 4.125 volts

then

V2 = 3.75 * 2.2 = 8.25 volts

then

V3 = 3.75 * 4.7 = 17.625 volts
