Question
CHOOSE (INCREASE, DECREASE, or NO CHANGE)
A liquid with a density of 0.76 g/cm3 is poured into the glass.
More tinted water is added to the glass.
The cylinder is replaced with one that has the same density and diameter, but with half the height.
The cylinder is replaced with one that has the same height and diameter, but with density of 0.89 g/cm3.
The cylinder is replaced with one that has the same density and height, but 1.5× the diameter.
A liquid with a density of 1.06 g/cm3 is poured into the glass.
Explanation / Answer
1. When the with density 0.76 g/cm3 is poured in the glass as the liquid is less denser then water so it floats on the surface of the water So Cylinder will go down in this lens dense liquid so the X will decrease.
2. When more tinted water is added it does not affect the density of water so X will remain same. Means No change in X.
3. When the cylinder is replaced by cylinder of same diameter and density but half radius net downward force will reduce but on the same time water displaced will also reduce so there should not be any change in the value of X.
4. When the density of cylinder will be 0.89 g/cm3 it will sink down to the bottom so X will reduce.
5. When the diameter becomes 1.5 times of initial diameter Volume increases and hence upthrust also increses but weight also increases so there will be no change in X.
