Question

A scientist isolates a microbe from a contaminated water source. She thinks that the organism might be a new bacteria that is capable of surviving in the presence of lead, a heavy metal. She makes tubes of growth medium containing either no lead, 0.1 mg lead, 0.25 mg lead, 0.5 mg of lead or 1 mg of lead. She inoculates each tube with the 10 x 10e3 cells of the new organism and then incubates the inoculated medium at 37-degree Celsius. After 48 hours, she examines the tubes of medium and finds that there is no growth in any of them. However, she finds that the bacteria grew fine in a medium that did not contain any lead. She decides to repeat the experiment using lower concentrations of lead than those she used initially.identified the control step in the scenario described

1) inoculating the test microbe into a nutrient medium containing lead

2) inoculating the test microbe into a nutrient medium lacking lead

3) inoculating the test microbe into contaminated water containing high levels of lead

4) isolating the microbe from a contaminated water source

5) inoculating the test microbe into medium containing lower levels of lead than used initially

Explanation / Answer

As above situations are telling everything that

Bacteria with lead do not show growth and vice versa.

Bow why are these situations occuring?. Lets discuss it.

Come to the point:--

1. If it contains lead in its medium then no growth will be there

Because Lead will react with metabolites of bacteria and inhibit products will be there. Ultimately no growth will be there.

2.Lead no longer be there. So products which inhibit will not produces and they could get better growth in absence of lead.

3.first of all

Contaminated water means lower nutritious value as well as lead.they will get died.

4. Isolated microbe from contamination means that will be adapted for toxic, lead, other heavy metals. So if it is put in liquid medium without lead no growth will be there and vice versa.

5.if liquid contains lower extant of lead means plant will grow but growth quality will be lesser than intially used in liquid broth without lead.

So lead is the factor here. If broth is contaminated with lead no growth you can see there.

That's it.
