Question
Two point charges totaling 8.00 muC exert a repulsive force of 0. 100 N on one another when separated by 0.925m. What is the charge on each? smallest charge__________muC largest charge________muC What is the charge on each if the force is attractive? smallest charge_______muC largest charge_______muC Common transparent tape becomes charged when pulled from a dispenser. If one piece is placed above another, the repulsive force can be top piece's weight. Assuming equal point charges (only an approximation), calculate the magnitude of the charge if electrostatic force is great en of a 14.0 mg piece of tape held 1.10 cm above another. (The magnitude of this charge is consistent with what is typical of static electricity.)Explanation / Answer
since the force is attaractive both of them must be of same nature and there sum is positive imlies both of them are positive .so let the first charge be q1 and the second one is q2 so by first relation q1+q2 =8.
and by second relation force =kq1*q2/r^2.
0.1=9*10^9*q1*q2/0.925^2
q1*q2=9.5.
assuming q1 and q2 be the root of the quadratic equation x^2-8x+9.5.
solving equation we get root to be 1.5 and 6.5
