Question
Two lenses that are 15.0 cm are used to form an image, as shown in the figure below Lens 1 is diverging and has a focal length f_1 = -5.00 cm; lens 2 is converging and has length f_2 = +10.0 cm. The object is placed 5.00 cm to the left of lens 1. a) Find the position of the final image relatively to the lens 2. rinciple rays. b) Sketch a diagram showing the image formed by lens 1 and lens 2 using p c) What is the overall magnification of the final image? d) Is the final image upright or inverted? e) Is the final image real of virtual?Explanation / Answer
a) d02 = 20cm
f2 = 10cm
So, d2 = (1/f2 - 1/d02)^-1
d2 = (1/10 - 1/20)^-1
= 20 cm
c) Overall magnification = m1*m2
= -d1/do1 * -d2/do2
d1 = (1/f1 - 1/d01)^-1
d1 = (1/-5 - 1/5)^-1 = -2.5
So, m = 2.5/5 * -20/20
= -0.5
d) Inverted
e) Real
