Question
-Monochromatic light falling on two slits 0.0375 mm apart produces the sixth-order fringe at a 5.31° angle. What is the wavelength of the light used?
-In a double-slit experiment it is found that blue light of wavelength 471 nm gives a second-order maximum at a certain location on the screen. What wavelength of visible light would have a minimum at the same location?
-White light containing wavelengths from 403 nm to 757 nm falls on a grating with 7130 lines/cm. How wide is the first-order spectrum on a screen 2.39 m away?
Explanation / Answer
Here ,
slit distance , d = 0.0375 mm
for m = 6
theta = 5.31 degree
as the bright fringe position is given as
d*sin(theta) = m*wavelength
0.0375 *10^-3 * sin(5.31) = 6 * wavelength
wavelength = 5.784 *10^-8 m
the wavelength of the light used is 5.784 *10^-8 m
