Question

Item 2 Part A The lightbulb in the circuit shown in the figure(Figure 1) has a resistance of 12 and consumes 4.8 W of power; the rod is 1.34 m long and moves to the left with a constant speed of 3.3 m/s. The strength of the magnetic field is 1.7 T . Find the current that flows in the circuit. Express your answer using two significant figures Submit My Answers Give Up | Figure 1 # | of 1 Part B What speed must the rod have if the current in the circuit is to be 1.5 A? Express your answer using two significant figures external magnetic m/s Submit My Answers Give Up

Explanation / Answer

A) Induced emf = B*v*L

induced current, I = induced emf/R

= B*v*L/R

= 1.7*3.3*1.34/12

= 0.626 A

B) induced emf = I*R

B*v*L = I*R

v = I*R/(B*L)

= 1.5*12/(1.7*1.34)

= 7.9 m/s
