Question

A- Part A

Determine the magnitudes of the currents through R1 and R2 in the figure (Figure 1) , now assuming that each battery has an internal resistance r=2.9?.

Express your answer using two significant figures. Enter your answers numerically separated by a comma.

I1, I2 = ? A

B- Determine the directions of the currents through

R1 and R2

I1 to the right; I2 to the right. I1 to the left; I2 to the left. I1 to the right; I2 to the left. I1 to the left; I2 to the right Vi = 9.0 V Ri = 22 R2 = 15 V3 = 6.0 V

Explanation / Answer

here,

let the current in R1 is I1 to the left

let the current in R2 is I2 to the right

internal resistance of battery , r = 2.9 ohm

let the current through R1 is I1 , R2 is I2 and V3 is I3

using KCL through the upper loop

15 * I2 + 22 * I1 + 2.9 * I1 = 9 ....(1)

using KCL in the lower loop

2.9*I3 - 15 *I2 = 6 ...(2)

using KVL

I1 = I2 + I3 ....(3)

solving equation (1 ), (2) and (3) for I1 , I2 and I3

I1 = 0.51 A

I2 = - 0.25 A

I3 = 0.76 A

current I1 is 0.51A and to the left

current I2 is 0.25 A and to the left
