Question

15. Consider the figure below. Let the magnetic field be out of the page in the region of the shaded rectangle. At an instant when the wire loop is being pulled from the region of the magnetic field (as shown), find the direction of the induced current in the loop. Solution: The magnetic flux through the loop is decreasing out of the page. A counterclockwise current will flow in the loop so that the loop creates a magnetic field out of the page so as to oppose the decreasing flux out of the page. hl

Explanation / Answer

According to Lenz law current will induce in such a direction through which it can reduce the effect of changing flux

So if flux is decreasing it will induce so that flux can not decrease so it will increase the flux

and if flux is increasing then current will induce so that flux can not increase as it was increasing initially

In part A flux is decreasing as it was coming out of the page so counterclockwise current induced so that some part of flux can be given byt is current out of the page and it can reduce the decreasing flux

Similarly in part B

current is towards left in wire so in upper loop direction of magnetic field (flux) would be into the page, when current decreases flux decreases from the loop and to oppose this clockwise current induce in the loop

Same is for bottom loop, for this flux is out of the page due to the current in wire when current dereases flux dereases and to oppose this counterclockwise current induced so that extra out of the page flux can be provided by the loop.
