            B. Some insect species are now resistant to pesticides.

            C. Due to increased shark populations, seal populations have more streamlined bodies

D. Like certain other crops, domesticated strawberries are larger than wild strawberries

2. Specific sequences of hereditary information that codes for a protein is _____________.

B. DNA

C. RNA

D. a carbohydrate

3.

In an experiment to test whether sleep deprivation affected student exam grades, a group of students (Group A) slept their normal amount before coming to the exam. The other group (Group B) only had 2 hours of sleep. Group B represents the ______.

A. experimental group

            B. hypothesis

            C. variable

            D. control group

Explanation / Answer

Question 1. D
Domestication of any crop or animal is the artificial selection of certain desired characters in the sense that farmers or breeders breed species with certain specific caracteristics to obtain their desired phenotypic or genotypic organism. Whereas, all the other options are a case of natural selection as in them nature favours the better growth of one species over the other due to its better characteristics.

Question 2. C

The most suitable answer for this question should be RNA. As starting from the DNA (the genetic material) it has genes on it, which are made up of both coding and non coding sequences (exons and introns resp.). This gene is further transcribed and converted to RNA which ultimately codes for the protein.

Question 3. A

Group A is the control group which was given normal sleep time. Whereas, Group B which was given lesser sleep time to check the effect of sleep on performance (which was the experiment) is the experimental group, as the experiment is being performed on them.
