Question
2nd question.(2) You have been given 3.4032779 g of copper from which you are to fashion a wire whose resistance is 1.9001084 ohms. The density of copper is 8900 kg/m3 and the resisitivity of copper is 1.7 x 10 -8 ohm m. What will the diameter of the wire be that you fashion?
(3) Two 2.202 cm by 2.202 cm plates that form a parallel-plate capacitor are charged to +/- 0.677 nC.What is the electric field strength inside the capacitor if the spacing between the plates is 1.331 mm?
Please show all your work so i can learn how these are done. Thanks!
Explanation / Answer
1) Figure is not uploaded
2) density = mass/volume
volume = mass/density = (3.4032779*10^-3)/8900 = 3.823*10^-7 m^3 = A*l
l is the length of the wire = Volume/A = (3.823*10^-7)/A
R = 1.900184 ohm
rho = 1.7*10^-8
R = rho*l/A
R = rho*(3.823*10^-7)/A^2
A^2 = (1.7*10^-8)*(3.823*10^-7)/(1.9001084) = 3.42*10^-15
A = 5.84*10^-8 m^2
radius r =sqrt((5.84*10^-8)/(3.142)) = 1.36*10^-4 m
diameter = d = 2*r = 2.72*10^-4 m
----------------------------------------------
3) C = eo*A/d = Q/(E*d)
E = Q/(eo*A) = (0.677*10^-9)/(8.85*10^-12*2.202*2.202*10^-4) = 1.577*10^5 N/C
