The coefficient of kinetic friction between the lower block and the surface is 0.29. The coefficient of kinetic friction between the lower block and the upper block is also 0.29 (Figure 1) What is the acceleration of the 2.0 kg block? Explanation / Answer

Now Concentrate Complewtely on Lower Block

Imagine its Free Bod Diagram What are the Forces Acting on it

1)Pulling tetnsion Towards Right = 20 N

2)Friction From Ground= u1*N = 0.29(2+1)*(9.8) = 8.526 N Towards Left

3)Friction From Upper Block =u1*N = 0.29*1(9.8)=2.842 N Towards Left

4)tension From Pulley Rop = T= Friction From Upper Block =u1*N = 0.29*1(9.8)=2.842 N Towards Left

Now adding up all the Forces adding up and Right side as positive

F net = 20 - 8.526 - 2.842 - 2.842 = 5.79 N

F= ma = 5.79

a = 5.79 / 2 = 2.895 m/s^2
