1. In Compound fracture also known as open fracture, the fracture communicates with the outer environment through an open wound. It have an open wound which exposes the bone and other soft tissue to outer environment.

2. In compound fracture, the leg should be immobilized during transportation as to prdvent further injury. The sharp edges of the bone may injury other soft tissues like ligaments, muscles or blood vessels. Immobilization also helps control the bleeding and pain.

3. Osteomyelitis is infection of the bone. Compound fracture have agreater risk of osteomyelitis as the wound is open exposing the and inner soft tissues. This leads to contamination of bone and other soft tissues.

4. These fracture have more severe kind of injury than other fractures. Also whenever the broken bone moves it damages the surrounding structures causing more pain and bleeding. Infection also increases the pain.
