Question
After its release at the top of the first rise, a roller-coaster car moves freely with negligible friction. The roller coaster shown in Figure P8.26 has a circular loop of radius 20.0 m. The car barely makes it around the loop. At the top of the loop, the riders are upside down and feel weightless.
I already received the answers for part A and B~
(a) Find the speed of the roller coaster car at the top of the loop (position 3): 14 m/s
(b) Find the speed of the roller coaster car at position 1.: 31.305 m/s
But I need help with part C and D:
(c) Find the speed of the roller coaster car at position 2. _______m/s
(d) Find the difference in height between positions 1 and 4 if the speed at position 4 is 9.20 m/s. _______m
Explanation / Answer
c) Apply, v2^2 - v1^2 = 2*(-g)*R
v2 = sqrt(v1^2 - 2*g*R)
= sqrt(31.3^2 - 2*9.8*20)
= 24.24 m/s <<<<<<<<---------------Answer
D) Apply, v4^2 - v1^2 = 2*(-g)*h
==> h = (v4^2-v1^2)/(-2*g)
= (9.2^2 - 31.3^2)/(-2*9.8)
= 45.67 m <<<<<<<<---------------Answer
