Question

A transformer had 2000 turns on the primary and 400 turns on the secondary. The voltage into the primary is 120V and the current out if the secondary is 2.8A. A. Find the current into the primary and the voltage at the secondary B. How much power is used at the secondary A transformer had 2000 turns on the primary and 400 turns on the secondary. Find the current into the primary and the voltage at the secondary B. How much power is used at the secondary

Explanation / Answer

A)

Number of turns of primary, Np = 2000

Number of turns of secondary, Ns = 400

Voltage into primary, Vp = 120 V

We know, Vp/Vs = Np/Ns

So, Vs = Vp*(Ns/Np) = 120*(400/2000) = 24 V <---------voltage at secondary

Current of secondary, Is = 2.8 A

Also, Is/Ip = Np/Ns

So, Ip = Is*(Ns/Np) = 2.8*(400/2000) = 0.56 A <---------current into primary

B)

Power used in secondary= Is*Vs = 2.8*24 = 67.2 W <-----------answer
