I am to design a case study for the enzyme, Amylase, but I am having trouble getting started. What is the medical relevance of the Amylase, as well as any ethical considerations related to testing for disorders related to Amylase? I researched the condition of hyperamylasemia, which is an increase in the amount of amylase in blood. So far the sources that I have found say that there are no symptoms associated with hyperamylasemia. And hyperamylasemia is only indicative of a more serious issue such as a pancreatic disorder. How am I to design a case study around the relevance of this enzyme, when there aren't even any syptoms associated with an increase or decrease of amylase in the blood, let alone any real disorders that are directly tied to amylase concentration?

Amylase is an important enzyme necessary for the digestion of carbohydrates. It breaks down complex starch into simpler disaccharides. Amylase is found in saliva and pancreatic juice. Increased concentrations of serum amylase is found in cases of pancreatitis, perforated peptic ulcer, torsion of ovarian cyst and mumps. Recently, a study has found out that increased concentrations of amylase is found in saliva in case of insomniacs. There is a positive correlation between salivary amylase levels and the length of sleep deprivation. A case study on amylase can be made based on this information.
