Question
Magnetic field due to two wires
I cant figure out part b and c please help!
The two wires shown in the figure carry currents of I = 5.82 A in opposite directions and are separated by a distance of d0 = 9.63 cm. Calculate the net magnetic field at a point midway between the wires. Use the direction out of the page as the positive direction and into the page as the negative direction in your answer.
B)Calculate the net magnetic field at point P1 - that is 9.52 cm to the right of the wire on the right.
C)Calculate the net magnetic field at point P2 - that is 19.2 cm to the left of the wire on the left.
Explanation / Answer
a)
given i = 5.82 A and d0 = 9.63 cm
r = 9.63 / 2
r = 4.815 cm = 0.04815 m
B = 2 X ( o i / 2r )
B = 2 X 2 X 10-7 X 5.82 / 0.04815
= 23.28 X 10-7 / 0.04815
B = 483.48 X 10-7 T
b)
B = o / 2(i1 / x1 - i2/(d0 + x1))
B = o / 2( i1 / 0.0952 - I2/(0.0963 + 0.0952))
=2 X 10-7 X ( 5.82 /0.0952 - 5.82 / (0.0963 + 0.0952)
= 2 X 10-7 X ( 61.13 - 30.82)
= 2 X 10-7 X (30.31)
= 60.62 X 10-7 T
c)
B = o / 2 X ( i1 / x2 - i2 / (d0 + x2))
B = o / 2 X ( i1 / 0.192 - i2 / (0.0963 + 0.192))
= 2 X 10-7 X ( 5.82 / 0.192 - 5.82 / (0.0963 + 0.192)
= 2 X 10-7 X (30.31 - 20.18 )
=2 X 10-7 X (10.13)
= 20.26 X 10-7 T
