Question
A curve with a 135 m radius on a level road is banked at the correct angle for a speed of 20 m/s.
If an automobile rounds this curve at 30 m/s, what is the minimum coefficient of static friction between tires and road needed to prevent skidding?
So far, I have tried:
0.337
0.0
0.34
0.246
0.033
And NONE of them work. I am going crazy because I keep getting answers that are in the same ballpark but that the computer does not accept. I'm at my wit's end. If someone could please not just provide the answer but clearly indicate which equations to use I would be very appreciative. Many thanks.
Explanation / Answer
v = sqrt(mu*r*g)
30^2 = (mu*135*9.81)
mu = 0.679 is the answer for coefficient of static friction
