Question

6) What is the role of DNA ligase in the elongation of the lagging strand during DNA replication? A) It synthesizes RNA nucleotides to make a primer B) It catalyzes the lengthening of telomeres Co It joins Okazaki fragments together. D) It unwinds the parental double helix E) It stabilizes the unwound parental DNA. 7) A particular triplet of bases in the template strand of DNA is 5' AGT 3. The corresponding codon for the mRNA transcribed is A) 3' UCA 5 B) 3' UGA 5 C)5' TCA 3' D) 3' ACU5' E) either UCA or TCA, depending on wobble in the first base. 8) A particular triplet of bases in the template strand of DNA is 5 AGT 3'. The corresponding codon for the mRNA transcribed is A) 3' UCA 5' B) 3' UGA 5' C) 5' TCA 3' D) 3' ACU5' E) either UCA or TCA, depending on wobble in the first base. 9) Which of the following DNA mutations is the most likely to be damaging to the pro specifies? A) a base-pair deletion B) a codon substitution C) a substitution in the last base of a codon D) a codon deletion E) a point mutation 10) Which of the following DNA mutations is the most likely to be damaging to th it specifies? A) a base-pair deletion B) a codon substitution C) a substitution in the last base of a codon D) a codon deletion E) a point mutation

Explanation / Answer

6. Option C is the correct answer. During replication one out of two newly synthesize strand from parent DNA is lagging strand and other is leading strand. Lagging strand is discontinous and known as Okazaki fragments. This discontinous strand rejoin by DNA ligase.

7. Option A is the correct answer. Transcribed mRNA is always complimentary to the DNA template and RNA always contain uracil instead of thymine in DNA. Here complimentary nucleotide of Adeninine is thymine (uracil in RNA), cytosin for guanine and adeninine for thymine. Thus the codon in mRNA will be UCA.

9. Option A is the correct answer. A base pair deletion indicates the deletion of nucleotide from both strand which change the whole reading frame and thus higly damaging to the ptotein.

Note: question 7and 8 are same also question 9 and 10 are same.
