A Honda Civic travels in a straight line along a road. Its distance x from a stop sign is given as a function of time t by the equation x(t) = 1.50 1. t2-0.0500% t3. a. What are v(t) and ax (t)? (2 points) b. What are the magnitudes of velocity and acceleration att- 8.00s? (2 points) 2. Jeremy (our cricket) is on a cart that is placed at the bottom of a ramp that is inclined at = 10°. Chirpy is at the bottom of the ramp watching Jeremy ride the cart. A kid then pushes the cart up the ramp, giving the cart an initial speed of Vo-4s a. b. c. How many seconds will it take Jeremy to reach the top of his motion? (2 points) How far up the ramp will Jeremy be able to travel? (2 points) If, after 1 second, Jeremy falls of the cart and breaks his leg and cannot move, what is the distance Chirpy has to travel to save Jeremy from the cart crushing him as the cart rolls down the slope? 1.
a)
X(t) = 1.5 t^2 - 0.05 t^3
Vx(t) = d X(t)/dt
= 1.5*2 t - 0.05*3 t^2
= 3t - 0.15 t^2
You can write it as:
Vx(t) = 3 m/s^2 t - 0.15 m/s^3 t^2
ax(t) = dV(t)/dt
= 3 - 0.15*2 t
= 3- 0.3 t
You can write it as:
ax(t) = 3 m/s^2 t - 0.3 m/s^3 t
b)
ax (t) = 3- 0.3 t
at t = 8 s
ax(t) = 3-0.3*8
= 3 - 2.4
= 0.6 m/s^2
