Question

A m1 = 1.75-kg aluminum block and a m2 = 6.05-kg copper block are connected by a light string over a frictionless pulley. The two blocks are allowed to move on a fixed steel block wedge (of angle

? = 32.0?)

as shown in the figure. Making use of this table, determine the following.

(a) the acceleration of the two blocks
_____________ m/s2

(b) the tension in the string
_____________ N

A m1 = 1.75-kg aluminum block and a m2 = 6.05-kg copper block are connected by a light string over a frictionless pulley. The two blocks are allowed to move on a fixed steel block wedge (of angle ? = 32.0½) as shown in the figure. Making use of this table, determine the following. A m1 = 1.75-kg aluminum block (a) the acceleration of the two blocks m/s2 (b) the tension in the string N

Explanation / Answer

Regarding that acceleration of gravity is 9.8 m/s2

According to the diagram of free body W=weight of M2 and F= the strength parallel to the slope

Then F= M2*g*sen(32)=31.419 N

According to the second law of Newton, we have the following equation

F-T=M2*a       (1)

And

T=M1*a          (2)

Replacing eq. (2) in (1) , we can obtain the value of a=4.03m/s2

Furthermore using the equation (2) , we have the value of T=7.05N
