Question
3. Ariana Grande is a 16 year old Latino female from Patterson who is referred to you because of a recent fight she got into with a classmate at a football game. Ariana went into the stands to physically fight a girl that was gossiping about her. Ariana was suspended as a result of this incident. Furthermore, Ariana is currently living at home with her older sister who is pregnant with twins, her younger sister, younger brother, and mother. Ariana feels neglected and pushed to the side because of the attention that her mother gives to everyone else in the family except for her. Ariana has been self-medicating with marijuana for the last year. Lastly, Ariana has been getting into frequent fights with her peers on social media which have resulted in the school's dean of discipline getting involved repeatedly to address the situation. What intervention orExplanation / Answer
Ariana has anger problems because she thinks she is rejected at home and at school because she doesn't belong to majority. She has given in to marijuana because she wanted to forget this.
Firstly, she needed to be taught about priorities. Her mother doesn't neglect but provides more space to her pregnant sister and two young ones because they are not matured enough to do their tasks on their own.
Secondly, she is a football player which is a good sign because people who are engaged in a constructive activity will not go near drugs, so she could be motivated to play football regularly.
Thirdly, she should be helped with forming good friendship that would take away her feeling of negligence. Another thing is that she should be told that winning and losing is part of the game just shouting at someone is not going to change anything in her favour instead it would only mar her chances of excelling in sports because all the sports persons need a calm mind to perform.
Finally, she should also be counseled on accepting responsibilities inorder to help herself and her family. This helping will increase her confidence level. Being with friends from different backgrounds will help her understand that people are different.
