physics test review question #4 help!~
4. A uniform magnetic field B is perpendicular to the plane of a rectangular conducting loop. One side of the rectangle is a wire that can slide so as to change the area of the loop. The field has a magnitude of 6T and an emfof3 volts is induced in the loop when the area of the loop is decreased at a constant rate from 0.6 m to 0.2 m [a] What was the time period during which the area decreased? [b] What is the significance of the negative sign in Faraday's Law?Explanation / Answer
a)
induced emf = B*dA/dt
dt = emf/(B*dA)
= 3/(6*(0.6-0.2))
= 1.25 s
b) the negatice sign indicates the induced emf opposes the change in magnetic flux
by which it is genrated.
