Question
Hello, I need help on this physics problem.
In the figure below, a block of mass 100 g begins sliding from rest down a frictionless ramp, from an initial height of 2.5 m, as shown. The block then coasts along a horizontal frictionless surface and collides with another block of mass 600 g, which was initially at rest. The blocks then stick together and continue sliding along the surface. Find the speed of the center of mass of the two blocks after the collision.
The Answer is 1.0m/s, but why?

to find speed of the small
m*g*h = 0.5*m*v^2
v = sqrt(2*g*h)
v = sqrt((2*9.8*2.5)
v = 7 m/s
after collision
mon=mentum is conserved
m*v = (M+m)*Vcm
Vcm = (100*7)/(100+600)
Vcm = 1 m/s
