BARIUM ENEMA ; is an Xray exam that can detecct changes or abnormalities in the large intestine or colon. the procedure is also called colon Xray. an enema is the injection of a liquid into rectum through a small tube. INDICATIONS ; tumors, ulcers, diverticulae of colon or rectum, polypse, obstructions, inflammation, CONTRAINDICATIONS ; suspected bowel perforation, severe ulcerative colitis, pregnanacy, toxic megacolon, acute abdominal pain. before barium enema exam, patient will be instructed to empty colon. patient asked to drink only clear liquids. not NPO.
