Question
For this question, I am stumped between answer choices A, C, and G. I'm not sure what it's asking me. I added them together and got 793.88, but when adding or subtracting, you count decimal places, not sig figs, which is why I think it's 794. But is that a whole number or literally 3 sig figs? Or since both 0.88 and 2.4 have the least number of sig figs (2), my answer should also have 2 sig figs, which is 790 g? Please help. I'm confused. Thanks in advance!
Use significant figures to find the sum of the measurements 753 g, 37.6 g, 0.88 g, and 2.4 g.
(a) 2 significant figures (790 g)
(b) hundredths (793.88 g)
(c) whole number (794 g)
(d) none of these
(e) tens (790 g)
(f) tenths (793.9 g)
(g) 3 significant figures (794 g)
(h) 1 significant figure (800 g)
Explanation / Answer
the answer is 794(whole number) part C .
because while addition the rule says that we need to express our answer to the same number of decimal places as that of the origional number with the minimum no. of decimal places. the answer came as 793.88
rounding it off we get
794 g
