Question
For this project, your will conduct a needs assessment to identify a professional development need.
The first step in this process is to determine if professional development and instruction is really needed to address a specific performance problem. Sometimes the problem can be solved logistically, like re-arranging work flow processes. Other times, employees clearly need new instruction and training to complete the work. Your job is to find the gap between knowledge and performance.
Your should choose a "real" problem. Think about the organizations to which you belong, courses you have taken at GPTC, or your work place. What tasks do you see people struggling with? Refer to your text to to aid in identifying a potential topic of instruction you think could be helpful and fill a current learning gap.
Procedure:
Determine an instructional scenario where new or revised training is appropriate; where there is an obvious gap between knowledge and performance.
Determine what techniques you will use to gather data to substantiate the instructional need (surveys, questionnaires, interviews, etc).
Develop a needs assessment instrument.
Survey your target population/gather data.
Collect/analyze data.
Write a summary of the needs assessment data that includes the following:
a description of your target population based on your analysis
a description of the instructional need your team has uncovered
a description of the instructional solution your team will create
three to five instructional outcomes
With this assignment, your team has identified a potential knowledge gap, assessed the need for instruction, identified a topic to create, and described learning outcomes to use as you develop your training workshop.
Your team's written report must include the following:
Instructional scenario with a problem; describe in one or more paragraphs.
Needs assessment instrument
List of target members from whom to collect data
Description and analysis of data collected
Survey of the needs assessment results; describe in one or more paragraphs.
