sampling is a shortcut method for investigating a whole population . data is gathered on a small part of the whole parent population or sampling frame and used to inform what the whole is like.

a. Benefits:

- Random sampling: least biased of all sampling techniques , there is no subjectivity.Each member of all population has an equal chance to get selected. The advantage of this method includes it can be used with a large sample population and can aviod bias.

- Systemic sampling : Samples are choosen in a systematic or regular way. The benefits of tjis are: it is more straight forward than random method. A grid doesnot necessary to use, sampling just has to be at uniform intervals and a good coverage of the study area can be more easily achieved than using random sampling.

- Stratified sampling : This method is used when the parent population or sampling frame made up of sub sets of known size. The advantages of tjis sampling includes it can be used with random and systemic sampling and with point, line or area techniques. It is very flexible and applicable to many geographical enquiries. Also correction and comparison can be made between subsets.

Determining the sample size:  

The researcher needs appropriate sample size so that they can make interferance. The calculation of sample size based on confidence intervals. They calculate the population parameters thus determine the confidence intervals, so that all the values of the sample lie witjin that interval range.

Another method of calculating sample size isbased on tje effect size. Effect size is known as the differece between the sample statistics devided by the standard error
