Question

You are working on your favorite activity in the world

You are working on your favorite activity in the world physics homework! The problem involvesa small loop of wire which is stuck inside a larger coil. The loop has a resistance of 0.5 ohms and is1.0 cm in diameter. It is stuck inside a coil that is 2.0 cm in diameter. The coil has 120 turns and itis 8.0 cm in length. The current in the coil varies with time s shown in the diagram. When lookinginto the coil from the left, a positive current is seen to be clockwise. Your assignment is todetermine the current in the single loop when t=10.0 ms. You need to state the direction of thecurrent as well, but you knew that!

Explanation / Answer

here,

for the larger coil ,

dI/dt = 0.5/.01

dI/dt = 50 A/s

Now , dB /dt =u0*n*dI/dt / L

dB/dt = u0*120 * 50 /.08

dB/dt = 0.094 T/s

Now , for the inner loop ,

i = EMF/R

i = rate of change of flux/R = A*dB/dt /R

i = 3.141 * 0.005^2 * 0.094 / 0.5

i = 1.48 *10^-5 A

the current induced in the coil is 1.48 *10^-5 A

Now , as the current in outer loop is decreasing ,

accoring to len'z law , the induced current supports the current in outer loop ,

for the inner loop ,When looking into the coil from the left, a positive current is seen to be clockwise
