yes different companies have been have engaged in monopoly behavior, such as Microsoft, Google, or Wal-Mart.
there is allot of companies which is involved in monopoly.its has two different types
1)traditional monopoly
2)natural monopoly
traditional monopoly is the monopoly in which there are only one producer of goods in the market as compared to a number of suppliers.so the company or the supplier fix their own price according to their own willing which is not a fair to a common person.
and the prices of the product is so high that a common man can not afford this.
while natural monopoly is a monopoly in which there are allot of supplier in the market for the same product.so there will be a competition in the market and every company or supplier will try to fix affordable price and quality.which is very important for any company to exist and dominate others companies in the market.hence due to which the prices will become decrees.it is best for any society.
yes the society gets more benefits in natural monopolies.
for example the US post office
there are allot of ticket providing companies for the post in the market so those companies which give benefits and provide better package to the customers will dominate the market place.
