Read the following article and describe the issues associated with using social media networks. Then describe privacy and security consequences that might occur, especially when using the social media networks inappropriately. Article for review: "Security in the 21st Century: Examining the Link Between Online Social Network Activity, Privacy, and Interpersonal Victimization by Henson, Reyns, and Fisher" published in 2011 in the Criminal Justice Review that examines social networks and privacy.

Explanation / Answer

With the use of social media networks a person can -

1. Post a series of personal informaation which can be seen by many other users.

2. Connect with other users who are known to him/her or unknown to him/her.

3. Can create a virtual community, where the member can chat with each other or can share there emotions to other member of that community.

Instead of this there are some privacy and security concerns associated with social media network, which are as follws. Due to inappropriate use of this, that means, by sharing very personal information such as phone numbers or address of some bank account details through social networking can harras those by receiving call from unknown numbers, hack bank accounts by using account details etc. This is caused by adding unknown people and share personal information with them. Some time by using your personal information other person can create another profil in your name and harrass your friends by using your name.
