answer this discussion: ""Alcohol and substance abuse is a part of our society. Problems associated with alcohol and substance abuse cut across all socioeconomic levels, gender, religion, professional status, and age."(Burger p.257). As the text says, substance abuse is prevalent in our society and it is not going any where soon which is bad for society but for someone who wants to be a alcohol and substance abuse counselor. I am a substance abuse counselor, I believe it is my calling to be a substance abuse counselor and I have every intention of doing what I need to do in order to do, like school, in order to further myself in the field. I find the disease of addiction to be fascinating! It is a cruel disease but it intrigues me. I happen to be in recovery. I understand the insanity of the disease and want to help others live clean, sober, happy, productive lives."

Explanation / Answer

Substance and Alcohol abuse is a issue for the society. Now there are counselors who help people to break-away from their addiction. These counselors basically have 2 motivations behind this job, first is the money which is the most common and effective motivation for any job and next one is the desire to help the society. So even from the menace of this substance abuse, these counselors are benefitted financially, socially and emotionally.
