Explanation / Answer
RN should enter the patient's room with a smile. Then apologize for the inconvenience that has occurred during last 30 minutes. Just point out the reason, why the nurse couldn't be attended the patient. Make the patient comfortable, provide adequate lighting and give some water to the patient.Try to start a friendly talk.Ask about patient's present condition and during this time, get ready his meal to have his lunch.
Here the situation occurred due to the patient may be under physical restraint. By restraining someone who was fully independent will drop self-esteem of ones. So he becomes stressed soon. Moreover, it will develop insecurity also. And by hospitalisation, the other problem will be" body image disturbance". May be that man was the breadwinner of his family. And this also leads to stress, that is he has to ask assistance even to have something.
RN can solve these problems only by talking to a friendly way and can help the patient to ambulate by strict supervision if it is not restricted by the physician. Also, an RN can develop a patient friendly environment in his room which is depending on the patient's interest. Moreover, make sure his call light is working properly, and reassure him RN will be there if any help is required. Make sure that there is no hindrance to the patient's interests unless the physician is not ordered so. If it is needed a arrange a counsellor to reassure the patient.
