The lack of a substantial profit advantage for many CT's arises because they often enter mature markets. leads to slow diffusion of these technologies. occurs because of excessive government promotion of CT's. makes it difficult to overcome high sunk costs of entry. a, b and d. The social nature of consumption in wealthy countries undermines which key assumption of the efficiency standard? Pareto efficiency. There is a fundamental trade-off between economic growth and environmental quality. Maximizing net benefits maximizes social welfare. Consuming more of any good increases welfare.

Explanation / Answer

For question 2.option (b) is the answer. The present day consumption in weathy countries is mostly of manufactured and industrial goods and the development of the production technique has been at the cost of the environment. The economic growth seen it the last two centuries has totally been at the cost of the environment. The current international meets and organisations has been an effort to balance the growth along with the safegaurd of environment after the late realistion that the modern way of production and consumption is at the cost of the environment. The paris meet which has recently completed had aimed to reduce carbon by 2 ppc by 2020. The total production of carbon by rich countries like U.S and China ia double of what the developing countries produce. The immense number of vehicles used, the new electronics which emits carbon and other dabgerous/green house gasses like heater and refigerator are of regular use in the developed countries.

The other options are the ones on the basis of which actually the consumption of wealthy countries takes place. like the pareto efficiency or the pareto optimality which shows a stuation in which one individual cannot be better off without making one individual worse off. This is exactly the situation in the weathy countries. There is so much competition for every single resource. The concumption pattern in the wealthy countries actually runs in a assumption that maximising net benefits will maximise social welfare and consuming more of any good increase welfare
