can an indiviual be both pro-union and pro-employer, or does being pro-union mean one has to be anti-employer? Can an individual be anti-union and still legitimatley claim to suppor pro-employee intrests?

Yes, it is very much possible that a person is pro union and pro employer. It is possible that an individual simply wants that each party-employer and employee get their due returns. In such a case, he may be of an opinion that employees should be organized but they must not aim at shirking work and getting paid; exploiting the employer through unionization. But what actually happens, as long as workers are not unionized, employer exploits them and when they get unionized, they start exploiting employers.
It seems impossible in real world scenario because people are not seeking power to save themselves from exploitation but to exploit the other party.
therefore, some may say that it is not possible to be pro-union or pro-employer. If I am working in X ltd, I can be pro-union and if I am running my own company, I may be pro-employer. But if I talk as a sociologist or economist, I can be pro-union and pro employer simultaneously. I believe union is necessary as long as they need power to negotiate their wages, working conditions and other benefits. But I also strongly believe that union should not have so many powers that it starts exploiting the employers for undue demands or it creates strikes and lockouts and thereby affect the production in the economy.
