please answer all six questions. thank you

Map C What type of geologic contact exists between the Devonian siltstone and the Pennsylvanian micrite? 1. 2. How old is the Undivided shale unit? What structure is found in Map C? What two pieces of evidence support your interpretation? 3. 4. Sketch a geologic cross-section across the entire map area in a geologically appropriate orientation below the map. Hint: it is typically appropriate to draw a cross-section that is across the strike of the main geologic features in the area, e.g., bedding, faults, folds, etc. Make sure you put on the line of section on the map. Check your line of section with a TA before you sketch the section.

Explanation / Answer

1. Depositional Conformity exists between Devonian Siltstone and Pennsylvian Micrite. This is because there is a continuous deposition as is evidenced from the oppositely dipping strata. Oppositely dipping strata which dip inwards towards each other indicates that oit is a SYNCLINAL STRUCTURE. Here, deposition is continuous. And there is no unconformity as there is no break in the deposition.

2. The age of undivided shale is 393000 m.y.

3. SYNCLINAL STRUCTURE is found in Map C. So, there is the evidence of a SYNCLINAL FOLD in the outcrop represented by the map. The evidence of a synclinal fold is evidenced by the following two points:

6. Geological history of Map C:

Older to younger sequences are:

Undivided Shale

Devonian Siltstone

Pennsylvanian Micrite.
