Explanation / Answer

Let X = Length of newborn baby

Y = Weight of newborn baby.

Y is dependent on X.

Let the linear function be:

Y = a + bX where a & b are constants.

a: Intercept & b: Slope of the function.

Putting the data in the equation:

7.39 = a + 17.5b (1)

9.48 = a + 21.16b (2)

Subtracting equation (2) from equation (1) gives u:

2.09 = 3.66b

b = 2.09 / 3.66

= 0.57
