1. THE FARC REBEL GROUP included the National liberation army(ELN) and people's liberation army(EPL) heavily relied on cocaine production to fund its insurgency and thus controlled much of the industry. They formed in the very first place because almost before a decade ago Colombia supplied 90% of entire world's cocaine supply. By these activities DRUG PROFITS were the vital source of cash for the FARC.

2. During the last peace talks with the government around 1993-2000 the FARC was at peak stage with its rich military power through the drug income made no effort to seriously negotiate a peace treaty. But later Colombian government's military constantly targeted coca crops and destructed them in terms which slowly started to weaken FARC and reduced its drug income which helped to convince FARC leaders to return for bargaining negotiations.

3. Coca crops were increasing yearly and farmers even felt that no other crops would give the income like coca crops and thus became leading cocaine supplier in the world. Directly or indirectly the FARC rebels were greatly benefited by these drug profits. By using this source of income FARC established a strong military power and increased their popularity in these regions.

4. The physical geography has greatly protected by these rebel groups from the government especially because the crops of coca leaves extended an area of almost 100,000 hectares. Colombia and Peru remains the. The important cocaine producing countries and this cocaine business has slowly spread to the most of south America. Before last year the revolutionary armed forces of Colombia fought for more than half a century.

5. Currently in Colombia the government and the rebels are together in a joint program to destroy vast crops of coca leaves(raw material of cocaine). This is an appreciable moment which is a great step taken by the government to control cocaine production. In this process the government agreed to offer monthly payments for farmers. Apart from these, for destroying their plants voluntarily government also do provide loans and offer other plant alternatives like to plant other fruit tress in that particular place.
