Question
1.Just north of the Gulf coast in Jackson, MS and Mobile, AL, the front nearest the coast was a ________ front.
[ ] warm
[ ] cold
[ ] stationary [ ] occluded
2.The frontal symbol on the map indicated that, at map time, the front was moving generally towards the ________.
[ ] east
[ ] south [ ] west [ ] north
3.Jackson’s temperature and dewpoint were given in the station model as 73°F and 65°F, respectively. This tells us the air at the surface in Jackson ________ saturated.
[ ] was
[ ] was not
4.Jackson’s station model reported that clouds ________ located above Jackson. This suggested that middle and upper air over Jackson had been lifted over the approaching frontal surface.
[ ] were
[] werenot
5.These conditions associated with Jackson all imply that the upper air over the area ________ rising.
[ ] was
[ ] was not
6.The Stuve diagram showed by the separation of the temperature and dewpoint values at the surface and above (up to about 935 mb), that the surface air ________ saturated. This was confirmed by the Figure 1 observations of the Jackson surface temperature and dewpoint.
[ ] was
[ ] was not
7.The temperature profile from the surface up to about 935 mb over Jackson was essentially parallel to the ________ adiabatic lapse rate lines printed on the diagram. This was evidence of surface air moving upward and cooling by expansion at the unsaturated adiabatic lapse rate.
[ ] straight, solid, green dry
[ ] curved, dashed, blue saturated
Careful inspection of the profiles shows that temperatures decreased quickly in the first few tens of millibars and there was a slight decrease in dewpoints as well. This was due to the
influence of ground conditions. Then, starting at about 935 mb, there was a temperature inversion extending to about 905 mb. This was due to the advance of warmer air upward above the frontal surface, ahead of the position of the surface front. Note how the winds also shifted at the base of this layer, coming from the south (the location of the Gulf, relative to Jackson). Finally, the air again returned to cooling by expansion above this inversion layer.
Air rising from the surface above Jackson cooled, and at about 935 mb, its temperature and dewpoint ________ become equal.
[ ] did
[ ] did not
The air over the Jackson area at 935 mb therefore ________ saturated.
[ ] was
[ ] far from being
10. Table 1 displays selected values from the Jackson rawinsonde in their raw, numeric format. Table 1 focuses on the lowest layer of the air mass as described in Item 7. This was the interval shown on the Stuve diagram (Figure 2) to be following adiabatic expansional lift. The temperature difference between the bottom (1007 mb) and top (936 mb) of this layer in Table 1 was ________ °C over an altitude change of 627 m. Therefore, this temperature lapse rate of 6.2°C per 627 m was essentially equivalent to ________ °C per kilometer (1000 m).
[ ] 2.6; 6.8
[ ] 6.2; 9.87
[ ] 9.87; 15.2
[ ] 10.27; 17.6

Fronts were analyzed three hours prior to other data.Explanation / Answer
1.As the north of gulf coast in Jackson ,mobile ,AL the front coast font is cold because the northern side air was hotter but the southern cooler air replaces the north air to make it cool .so we can conclude it to be cool.
2.As shown in the map you can see a blue line mark on left upper side of the map towards east which indicates it was moving towards east .
3.As Jacksons temperature and dew point are 73°F and 65°F respectively .That means the difference is only 8°F ,which indicates that the air saturation doesn't change more.so the air was saturated .
4.As given the upper and middle air is lifted which indicates the cloud should be present there.so in Jackson's model cloud were there.
