The newly proposed onsite health and wellness program in a business organization can engender many direct/indirect economic and humanitarian benefits such as enhancing employee/staff productivity by improving their psychological and health related well-being,better personal-work/professional life balance,better stress management procedures among employee/staff,creating wider awareness regarding safe and hygenic health practices and much more.In this context,it can be evidently seen that many organizations ignore the psychological and health related issues faced by their employee or staff within the organization thereby affecting employee job satisfaction,performance level,professional/personal stress level,proper personal-work life balance and hence forth.Therefore,with attention to these practical challenges in any organization,implementation of a wellness and health program can potentially induce many direct and indirect benefits to the organization from a comprehensive point of view.
As a practical demonstration of the proposed initiative,we can assume that a new health and wellness program is introduced in an educational institution which mainly consist of a considerably large employee/staff group including professors,management staff,administration staff,janitorial workers,garden staff and much more.The challenges confronted by this employee/staff group vary widely based on the respective affiliated departments.Hence, a well-comprehensive wellness and counselling program can benefit the entire employee/staff body of the organization thereby potentially facilitating better performance and work culture.From,this perspective the reach of such program would be truly comprehensive which is more likely to positively impact the business operation of the organization considering such wide ranging perspectives.As an example,weekly wellness check ups and counselling sessions might possibly assist a faculty member suffering from excessive class loads and time management issues thereby causing high psychological stress or debilitating health conditions or a janitorial staff facing extreme health hazards from excessive exposure to hazardous chemicals or any harmful cleaning materials.It can possibly help the faculty member in better classroom management,stress handling,improved notes preparation and proper maintanenance of personal health.Alternatively,better precautionary hygenic measures suggested by medical experts in the wellness program can generate awareness on safer housekeeping practices thereby promoting better health and work conditions for the staff.Likewise,a systematic and pervaisve implementation of such programs could benefit many employee/staff within the organization from various departments thereby directly or indirectly improving the overall work condition and performance level.
As applicable for any new commercial initiative some serious empirical analysis is imperative for the launch of this new program as well.In this regard,the management or the organizational authority can initiate a one to six months trial with a nominal service fee and examine the effectiveness of the program.Such observational experiment or study would be immensely helpful to conduct a preliminary cost-benefit analysis both from business and operational standpoint.It could not only enable a thorough financial feasibility study of the program but also its potential effectiveness among employees/staff.However,as a cautionary note,the management has to be careful as to how it will empirically measure or evaluate these potnetial costs and benefits while undertaking any concrete and subsequent decision.
The possible results/otcomes of the study can bring out many interesting and exciting revelations for the organization as it is evidently an unconventional method to evaluate commercial and operational importance.Most business organizations still predominantly emphasize excessively on the direct economic attributes of employee/staff productivity such as sales performance,revenue enhancement,product price determination,market competition,operational cost reduction or economies of scale etc.However,through more recnt empirical studies on business and commecial performance of business organizations,it has been seen that the indirect determinants of company performance are becoming increasingly crucial.The new health and wellness program implemented in the hypothetical educational institution can not only provide importance benefits to the organization but also unravel new directions for future empirical studies on this concerned subject area.
Now,with regards to the observational study,the management has to be aware of various practical and statistical challenges such as the willingness of the employee/staff to enroll in such program,selecting a considerably large sample group to measure the effectiveness of the program,any adverse health/psychological impact it might have on any participant and additional cost related considerations associated with the implementation and continuation of the program.Assuming that it is a voluntary activity for employee/staff the management cannot understandably impose it on them.Therefore,prior to conducting the observational study,the management has to thoroughly inform all the employee/staff regarding the particular rules/regulations and health related and psychological risks/benefits of the program.For this the management has to first discuss these issues with the medical experts and professional counsellors who would be involved in providing service before any kind of prompt and hurried implementation.
