(b) (5 marks) Describe the seven wastes identified within the Toyota Production System. Using the categories of People, Machines and Materiaks identify the associated wastes and the typical reasons for their occurrence. (c) (6 marks) (d) The Toyota Product System identified key industrial management principles for the implementation of lean manufacturing. Describe any six of these principles and highlight their significance to lean manufacturing (6 marks)Explanation / Answer
a) lean manufacturing is a sustemnatic way to minimize the waste. it is a japanese concept and the there enemies are muda, muri, and mura. coming to muda it is the direct obstacle of flow by waste. it is very importtant to minimize the waste so that there is no bottleneck created do to the obstacle created by muda(waste). coming to muri which is overburdening. It can even happen when there is no muda and the machine is over burdened. it can lead to machine breakdowns and in efficiency. Muri is about the unevenness which is created due to the customer demand. high product variation lead to this.
b) The main strategy is to reduce the time taken for the production and also increase the effeciency. Apart from this waste reduction helps in proper utilization of resources. For any manufacturing company this is the key that waste should be manimized and, machines should not be overburderned and the unevenness of the demand can be catered without muda.
c) Toyota Production System (TPS) figured out 7 types of waste which are defects, overproduction, waiting, not used talent, inventories, excess motion, transport. TPS says that these 7 things should be taken care while production. Each and everything is related and if any one is affected then the whole system will be dsturbed and sub standard product will be created.
