Question

Answer this question ( Parts 1 and 2!!!)
Gasoline turns the engine that makes a car move. Water flowing downhill can be used to power a city. 1. EXPLAIN how energy changes in both of these situations, and be specific about which types of energy are involved in these changes. 2. What fundamental concept do both of these processes illustrate? Explanation / Answer

1. Answer:

(A). Gasoline turns the engine that makes a car move. Here Gasoline is CHEMICAL ENERGY and this is converted into KINETIC ENERGY and this is how a car moves. Because the increasing kinetic energy is the only force that accelerates the vehicle by causing pressure on pistons and this energy is useful in the car engine.

(B). Water flowing downhill can be used to power a city. In this case water stored in the upper part of hill is POTENTIAL ENERGY( here water is stored) and thus moving all the way downhill it is converted into KINETIC ENERGY. And both these forms are together termed as Hydro power which is used to generate Electricity. The power that is generated depends on the volume of the water.

2. Answer:

Energy conversion or transformation is defined as the process of changing one form of energy to another form. If we notice both these cases their respective initial energy is finally converted into KINETIC ENERGY which is defined as the energy in motion or ability to do work. If we notice any object which is moving, it has some energy in it. And this is how natural and artificial process convert energy one from another.
