Explanation / Answer

Confirmation bias—Confirmation bias is termed as one of the five most commonly observed judgment bias which has the potential of tripping up the evaluator during the initial stages of thee evaluation.

In order to overcome this bias the following 5 methods can be used:-

Do not jump to conclusion:- The initial stages of evaluation must be treated as a fact finding or information search stage and the evaluator must be trying to find out all the possible information which he could. This can be done by controlling the temptation of creating a hypothesis or perception about the individual or the event and in fact wait must be done until the entire information is retrieved.

Brainstorming:- The evaluator should try to find out the three main traits of the interviewee which is not as per expectations and then depending upon these three factors, the evaluation must take place.

Identification:- The interviewer need to find out the various rationales of selecting the candidate. He must ask the very fundamental questions and note done and then compare it with thee references and the credentials provided by the candidates. Even cross questioning can also be done.

Circle Back:- Once the interview is over, re-analyze the entire communication, verify it and discuss with the co-interviewers and ask about their opinions. The interviewer should try to find out the contradictory information mentioned in the profile and communicated by the candidate during interaction.
