Question
Humidity
1. Using the rs table, fill in the saturation mixing ratios in the chart below. (Assume 1000mb pressure for these surface observations.)
2. The dewpoint temperature expresses the temperature at which the air would be saturated given the present moisture content. Use the rs table along with the dewpoint temperature to find the mixing ratio at 6 a.m.
3. Assuming there is no addition or removal of water vapor, fill in the mixing ratios for the rest of the day.
4. Next, fill in the associated dewpoint temperatures.
5. Calculate the relative humidities.

Saturation Mixing Ratio over Water (g/kg)Explanation / Answer
1. The saturation mixing temperatures are already filled in the chart. Just go to the correspomding temperature at which you want to find out the saturation mixing temperature and go horizontally to the required pressure (here 100mb) and take out the values of saturation mixing ratio.
2. To find out the mixing ratio, just multiply relativ ehumidity and saturation mixing ratio and then divide by 100
For eg. if you want to calculate the mixing ratio at 6 am, take the corresponding relative humidity 93.56 and saturated mixing ratio 9.49. Multiply both the values and divide by 100
mixing ratio at 6 am = (93.56 X 9.49)/100 = 8.8
3. Assuming there is no addition or removal of water vapour means assuming same relative humidity. Calculate the mixing ratio using the above said method for all the times given by taking the value of relative humidity as 93.56
at 12 pm - (93.56 X14.8)/100 = 13.84
at 6 pm - (93.56 X 16.79)/100 = 15.70
at 12 am = (93.56 X 11.46)/100 = 10.72
4. the formula for calculating dew point temperature is
B= (ln (RH/100) + (17.27 X T) / (237.3 + T))) / 17.27
D= (237.3 X B) / (1-B)
Rh is the Relative humidity
T is the temperature in degree celsius
B is intermediate value
D is the dew point temperature
For eg, for At 6 am, RH =93.56 and T= 13
B= (ln(93.56 /100) + (17.27 X 13) / (237.3+ T))) / 17.27
B = 0.0480
Then D = (237.3 X 0.0480) / (1-0.0480) = 11.96
