Anaerobic organisms can cause infection in the human body actually through out the human body. There are two types of anaerobic organism, one is facultative anaerobe and obligate anaeobe. Obligate anaerobe can not grow in the presence of oxygen but they can infect where there is almost no oxygen like deep wounds, deep tissues and internal organs. These infections are characterized by abscess formation that is foul smelling pus and tissue destruction. This is possible because of necrosis or poor blood supply and this enhances the growth of anaerobic bacteria. Facultative anaerobes can grow even in presence of oxygen and they cause infections in human frequently. That is why even if we are aerobic organism, anaerobic organisms can infect humans.
