Directions:
Read about the Bureau of Occupational and Professional Affairs which is part of the Department of State in the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania. A fact sheet on this bureau is available in this week’s Module.
ACCESS dos.pa.gov/ProfessionalLicensing(Links to an external site.)Links to an external site. (Links to an external site.)Links to an external site.
Once you get into the above website, use the search window to find Disciplinary Actions for December 2016. This is your access to this graded discussion. It is best not to use another section in this website, which is called the Disciplinary Document Search. I want students to see the extent of the records and extent of the disciplinary actions.
The Disciplinary Actions for December 2016 are organized by whichever Board within the Bureau of Occupational and Professional Affairs has licensed a particular healthcare professional.
Look at the document in this week’s Module which lists which disciplined healthcare professional you have been assigned to investigate. Each student is assigned to investigate one disciplined professional.
Reply to the postings of two fellow students. I prefer that you select to reply to fellow students whose disciplined individuals were not licensed by one healthcare board. Here are some things which I would like you to comment on: (1) the severity of the violation, i.e. if they committed or were charged with a felony, explain what that means; perhaps they were convicted of a felony that would mean something different. Identify how a violation would or could harm the public or put any patients in danger and possibly put their employees, co-workers or organization where they work as liable. Express if you think the disciplinary action taken a board that you thought was too lenient or too harsh. Do you think some of the penalties against anyone’s license was too little or too much? Can you see how a licensed person who does not take continuing education seriously and recognize that it is in their best interest to continue to learn and develop their knowledge and skills? Your replies should be concrete and relevant, and, not just frivolous and shallow.
Include the following to create your post for the individual you were assigned: (1) Their first and second name. (2) County where they live. (3) Factually and completely summarize what they did that required their respective licensing board to take action against their license and them; this is referred to as their violation. DO NOT JUST CUT AND PASTE THE INFORMATION IN THE RECORD AND DO NOT JUST PUT EVERYTHING IN QUOTATIONS. THIS SUMMARY SHOULD BE IN YOUR OWN WORDS.
(4) Summarize completely and accurately what action their respective board took. AGAIN use your own words; no quotes and no cut and pasting.
(5) Include the name of the board.
(6) Your post should be created as a paragraph and college level writing. Do not just provide answers to the above five points; compose the information into a paragraph.
