Question
Yes, I think that they are. But I also don't think the teams meant it to be. I don't think that a lot of thought went into naming their teams. I mean, look at the Washington Redskins. Growing up that is how the Native Americans were labeled with that name. If you look at baseball there is the Atlanta Braves. Again nothing is meant by this, I think that they just thought it was a cool name. But again if you look back in the history books, that was another label for the Native Americans. Another baseball team is called the Yankees, just proof that they don't mean anything when they pick a name. Yet if you go down south, an African American might hear you talk and say "There's a yankee"! Everyone whether it be White, Native American, African American etc. has a label. In a sense, I do believe that some teams do need to change their names. I think that Thanksgiving reminds the Native Americans of a simpler time. Where white people helped them rather than discriminate against them. In that sense, it might make them smile. But if they think about the way things are today, they might be sad. For Independence Day, it might make them see how far they have come. Both Americans and Native Americans have their freedom. But to some, the Americans seem to be having an easier time living than them. I think that it really depends on which generation it is. The older generations might look down upon it. But for the younger generation, it could be completely different. It would be interesting to see both American and Native Americans get together again. Kind of like a Peace Treaty.
IN 5-7 LINES WHAT DO YOU AGREED WITH THIS PASSAGE AND EXPLAIN WHY
Explanation / Answer
The point i agree from this passage is the love that native americans have over their ethnicity, The naming system for a team or for a group is closely related to their ethnicity. This is common all over the world because of remembering their history and culture and it has nothing to do with the unity of people. Humans must always support unity irrespective of their ethnic values but that doesn't mean that they have to forget their ethnicity as a mandatory thing. As ethnic values are important to appreciate one's life by living according to the values it has taught, there is no need to compare with the unity.
