1) a) According to Bronsted - Lowry concept, An acid is a substance which can furnish H+ ion (i.e.- acids are proton donor)in aqueous medium. In this context all Arrhenius acids are also Bronsted - Lowry acid. For example, HCl, H2SO4, HNO3 are Bronsted - Lowry acids
Bases are on the otherhand are proton acceptor. in this respect anions such as Cl-, NO3-, HSO4-, SO42- etc can accept protons and hence are bases. More over, neutral species such as H2O and NH3 can also accept protons and hence are bases.
Moreover, H2O is amphoteric(dual nature of acid and base) in nature as it can accept as well as donate proton.
